Everyone is invited to join the book club on Wednesday, April 19th at 7:30 pm as we share our thoughts on The Talented Miss Farwell, by Emily Gray Tedrowe. The meeting will be held in a hybrid format and registration is needed so we can provide you with the meeting location and link. Reply on our HNN book club Facebook page, or message Beth at the address below if you can attend. For your convenience, books are available in the book club section at the Holliston Library.

Coming next: In May we will be reading The Honey Bus by Meredith May, and in June, Oh, William! by Elizabeth Strout.

“Catch Me If You Can meets Patricia Highsmith in this "stylish" (New York Times Book Review) page-turner of greed and obsession, survival and self-invention that is a piercing character study of one unforgettable female con artist. At the end of the 1990s, with the art market finally recovered from its disastrous collapse, Miss Rebecca Farwell has made a killing at Christie's in New York City, selling a portion of her extraordinary art collection for a rumored 900 percent profit. Dressed in couture YSL, drinking the finest champagne at trendy Balthazar, Reba, as she's known, is the picture of a wealthy art collector. But a thousand miles from the Big Apple, in the small town of Pierson, Illinois, Miss Farwell is someone else entirely--a quiet single woman known as Becky who still lives in her family's farmhouse, wears sensible shoes, and works tirelessly as the town's treasurer and controller”—From the publisher.

Although Winter is still upon us, we can start dreaming about Spring and look forward to our Club's warm weather fundraisers, fun social events and meaningful civic contributions to our community.  To that end, we are once again helping the Holliston Pantry Shelf with Easter Gifts!  We are collecting monetary donations to purchase gift cards for families with children, who need some financial support to celebrate the Easter or Spring season.  So, please look in this Newsletter for how to donate.  And mark your calendars for two social events in March!  Specifically, (1) a family/children's event at Altitude in Franklin on March 10th where your ticket will financially support our Club's community Grant Fund (Summer Concerts/Library Museum passes) and (2) an adult Eco-Friendly Living Workshop at Holliston resident-owned business, Oceans Dreams Market, also on March 10th.

Lastly, we want to thank our incredible local businesses for sponsoring our Club in 2023.  We proudly give them a shout-out at the bottom of this Newsletter, on our Facebook page, and at our events.  Our Club's purpose is to foster a sense of community through personal relationships among town residents and partnerships with local businesses and organizations.  When we know each other, care about each other, and support each other we build a strong community and a thriving town.  So, please get to know and thank our local business supporters.  And I look forward to seeing you at Altitude and/or Oceans Dreams Market later this month!

Everyone is invited to join the book club on Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 pm as we dive into a compilation of short stories written by Tom Hanks, titled, Uncommon Type.  Read just one story or read them all then come chat as we enjoy good conversation and great company! We will hold the meeting in a hybrid format and registration is needed so we can provide you with the meeting location and link.  Reply in our HNN book club Facebook group (HNN Book Club), or message Beth at the address below if you can attend. Books are reserved for HNN members and available to check out from the Holliston Library.

Looking ahead we have a great line-up of titles to round out the rest of the year. Here’s a sneak peek!

April: The Talented Miss Farwell, by Emily Gray Tedrowe

May: The Honey Bus, by Meredith May

June: Oh, William!, by Elizabeth Strout

    Publisher annotation:

Hanks provides a collection of stories that are surprising, intelligent, and heartwarming. The stories are linked by one thing: in each a typewriter plays a part: sometimes minor, sometimes central.

"A gentle Eastern European immigrant arrives in New York City after his family and his life have been torn apart by his country's civil war. A man who loves to bowl rolls a perfect game--and then another and then another and then many more in a row until he winds up ESPN's newest celebrity, and he must decide if the combination of perfection and celebrity has ruined the thing he loves. An eccentric billionaire and his faithful executive assistant venture into America looking for acquisitions and discover a down and out motel, romance, and a bit of real life. These are just some of the tales Tom Hanks tells in this first collection of his short stories..."--Publisher annotation.

    Dear Members,

With the hustle & bustle of the holiday season over, it's time to prepare for the upcoming year of HNN civic activities, social get-togethers and fundraising events. With that, it's important to reflect on why HNN does what it does. Our goal is to foster a sense of community among our residents, local businesses and organizations; build relationships among members; and give back to our town.

Our efforts help Holliston remain a thriving community and contributes to its desirability as a place to live, work & play. We are so glad to have you as a member, and are grateful for your participation and personal contributions that have helped us achieve this goal.

I look forward to a successful and fun 2023 with HNN and all of you!

    Best, Jennifer

December is a bright and joyful time in our little town, and HNN loves to join in the fun this time of year! We're excited to see families at our annual Gingerbread House Decorating Fundraiser on December 10th in-person at Mt. Hollis Lodge. Don't forget to reserve a seating and gingerbread house! We also can't wait to toast glasses and exchange gifts at our annual Holiday Party Yankee Swap the evening of Dec. 10 at a member's home. Lastly, please join us on Dec.3rd to support our local theater troupe, The Washington Street Players in It's a Wonderful Life! And don't forget to check out HNN's decorated tree at Blair Square!

November was a bountiful month for HNN because of our many members, who graciously gave their time and energy throughout the month. These members worked hard to collect generous donations from Holliston residents and businesses for our Thanksgiving Baskets drive, as well as deliver delicious turkey meals to wonderful senior residents. We are grateful for all of you. So, let's have some fun together this holiday season!

    Best, Jennifer
