Holliston Newcomers & Neighbors is hosting its second annual Princess and Superhero party on Saturday, April 27th from 10:30am to 12:30pm. This event was so popular last year it sold out, so we are getting a bigger venue at Placentino Elementary School’s Cafetorium, 235 Woodland St. Holliston, MA. Come meet real-life princesses and superheroes, and don’t forget your camera! Our hometown superheroes, police and firefighters, will also be in attendance. Tickets are $10 each and include an ice cream sundae bar and all crafts and tattoos. Additional specials are offered such as face painting, hair sculpting and nail salon. Costumes are optional, but highly encouraged. Tickets may be purchased at http://www.hollistonnewcomers.org.

or The Grapevine, Coffee Haven or the Superette. Don’t miss this spectacular event!! We hope to see you there either as a participant or volunteer. So polish your crown and dust off your cape, and help us make this a great success!

    About our April selection:

This luminous story begins in the present day, when a professor invites a colleague to his home to see a painting that he has kept secret for decades. The professor swears it is a Vermeer--but why has he hidden this important work for so long? The reasons unfold in a series of events that trace the ownership of the painting back to World War II and Amsterdam, and still further back to the moment of the work's inspiration. As the painting moves through each owner's hands, what was long hidden quietly surfaces, illuminating poignant moments in multiple lives. Susan Vreeland's characters remind us, through their love of this mysterious painting, how beauty transforms and why we reach for it, what lasts and what in our lives is singular and unforgettable.

New participants are warmly welcomed at all HNC Book Club gatherings.  Please come join us!

    • March 19, 7:30 pm Book Club will meet at Pamela’s house for a lively discussion of An American Marriage by Tayari Jones.  Thank you Pamela for the great suggestion and for hosting this month!

Due to the popularity of this title, we were not able to place a group hold for Book Club members. However, individual copies of An American Marriage are readily obtained through the Minuteman Library Network book request system.

We would love to have some new host locations for the April, May and June meetings.   If you are interested, please let us know. About our March selection:

Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive, and she is an artist on the brink of an exciting career. But as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn't commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy's time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. This stirring love story is a profoundly insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look deep into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward--with hope and pain--into the future.
